Fidesz Candidate Finishes Third in Barcs By-Election

Fidesz Candidate Finishes Third in Barcs By-Election

The Barcs by-election results reveal a division in local political support and candidate backing.
A by-election was held in Barcs on Sunday following the passing of DIÓSI ANIKÓ from the Barcsért Egyesület in March.

Three candidates contested for the vacant seat in the second electoral district:

- REMES GÁBOR from the Barcsért Egyesület, previously associated with DK,
- EPERJESINÉ PÓSZ TÜNDE from the Béke Egyesület,
- LOSTEINER ISTVÁN from Fidesz.

The results indicated REMES GÁBOR secured victory with 38.4 percent of the votes.

EPERJESINÉ PÓSZ TÜNDE received 30.93 percent, while Fidesz's LOSTEINER ISTVÁN achieved 30.67 percent, losing to the second-place candidate by a single vote.

The local by-election drew attention due to complex dynamics within Barcs' political landscape.

The serving mayor, ANDERNÉ RÖSZLER ERIKA, did not endorse Remes Gábor, despite Remes being part of the same association that led him and seven other members to election success in June.

Instead, the mayor supported Eperjesiné Pósz Tünde's candidacy.

Remes expressed that he and the president of the Barcsért Egyesület felt marginalized, citing disagreements as a reason for their estrangement from local political favor.

In a statement regarding Remes, the mayor characterized him as demonstrating "bizarre affection" towards the leader of the Barcsért Egyesület, while suggesting that his approach resembled that of Fidesz despite his former affiliation with DK.

The mayor articulated a position favoring constructive political engagement, asserting that "political scheming and coercion" do not contribute positively to their shared goals, thus supporting Eperjesiné Pósz Tünde alongside five other colleagues.
