Orbán Bets on Trump: Hungary's PM Seeks Friendship with US President-Elect to Improve Political Fortunes

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, known for his controversial policies and isolation from the EU, expressed his hope that the US election results would bring a change in his political fortunes by mentioning his desire for a friendship with former US President Donald Trump.
Orbán, who has been criticized for weakening democratic institutions and strengthening ties with Russia and China, has been actively building alliances with far-right political leaders in Europe.

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán of Hungary is betting on the rise of nationalist and far-right forces and anticipates changes in Washington D.C. Orbán, who rarely speaks to independent media, defended his foreign policy choices to The Guardian and expressed support for Trump during a recent visit to the US, where he met with Polish and French nationalists but did not meet with any US administration officials.

Orbán's strategy is to maintain good relations with all countries, which he referred to as "connectivity." Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán dismissed concerns about Budapest's isolation and the strained relationship between Hungary and the US, expressing enthusiasm for former President Donald Trump and conspiracy theories accusing Washington of interfering in Hungarian domestic politics.
