In a decisive ruling, the Szegedi Court upheld the Csongrád-Csanád County Government Office's decision to revoke the operational license of the Wesley Janos Kindergarten, Primary School, and Gymnasium in Szeged, managed by the Hungarian Evangelical Brotherhood (Magyarországi Evangéliumi Testvérközösség, MET).

This ruling, delivered on Thursday, confirmed that the revocation was warranted due to significant violations of regulations.

The court's statement outlined that the government office's action stemmed from the institution's failure to clear overdue debts exceeding six months, coupled with the lack of financial arrangements necessary for the safe operation and initiation of the 2024/2025 academic year.

These financial deficiencies raised concerns about the safety and wellbeing of students at the institution.

In accordance with the revocation, the court designated mandatory admission zones for children and students previously enrolled at the affected institution, directing them to other public educational institutions and the Szegedi Vocational Training Center.

The MET challenged the decision in court, arguing that the government office had not adequately clarified the facts of the case and that all legal conditions for the revocation had not been met.

However, the court rejected the MET's claims, concluding that the government office had sufficiently established the factual circumstances and had correctly interpreted the relevant sections of national education law.

Previously, the Budapest Metropolitan Court had ruled against the Budapest Government Office's revocation decisions regarding two other educational institutions managed by MET.

In that case, the court invalidated the government's actions retroactively, citing procedural violations in the decision-making process.
