One year ago, government officials announced intentions to address shrinkflation, yet various consumer goods have been affected since then.

Reports have emerged indicating that brands such as Milka and various tortilla chips have reduced their packaging sizes relative to previous offerings.

Now, household staples, particularly laundry products, are following suit.

According to industry sources, many products from Procter & Gamble are set to see size reductions in the coming periods.

The affected products include popular items like Ariel laundry detergents and Lenor fabric softeners.

Notably, the Ariel liquid detergent designed for sensitive skin is slated to decrease in size from 1.7 liters to 1.125 liters, marking a reduction of nearly 34%.

In some instances, the changes involve more modest alterations.

Certain laundry capsule and dust mop products will contain just one or two fewer units per package, representing a size decrease of approximately 2-3%.

However, there are also reports of some Ariel liquid detergents experiencing only a 1% reduction.

The legislative framework requires manufacturers to inform consumers when the size of a product has been reduced, especially in cases involving pre-packaged goods available in retail locations exceeding one billion HUF in annual revenue.

This mandate was aimed at providing transparency to consumers regarding product changes, particularly for items sold between January 1, 2020, and July 1, 2023. However, exemptions may apply if the original size product remains on sale for at least an additional six months.
