Vehicle Collides with Crowd in Liverpool During Championship Celebrations

Incident occurs as thousands gather to celebrate Liverpool FC's Premier League title.
A vehicle was involved in a collision with multiple pedestrians on Monday in Liverpool, coinciding with celebrations for the city's football team winning the Premier League title.

The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, and authorities have yet to confirm whether there are any fatalities.

Following the incident, a 53-year-old British man from the Liverpool area was arrested.

Emergency services, including a helicopter, were dispatched to the scene on Water Street, which was cordoned off by police as they began their investigation.

Thousands of fans had gathered in the city center to celebrate the football team's victory.

Witnesses described a scene of panic as the vehicle drove through the crowd.

One witness reported hearing screams and seeing the vehicle approaching as they watched the event from a nearby apartment.

Desperate attempts were made by onlookers to stop the vehicle by trying to break its windows and reach the driver.

Healthcare personnel, including ambulances, arrived promptly at the scene to assist the injured.

Another witness narrowly escaped being hit by the vehicle; she noted that the street was extremely crowded when honking and screams erupted as they realized the vehicle was headed directly towards them.

The chaotic atmosphere prompted many attendees to seek police assistance.

A police spokesperson confirmed that inquiries are ongoing and that they have received reports of a road traffic incident involving a vehicle striking pedestrians shortly after 6 PM. Initial reports suggest at least three individuals were transported to hospitals with injuries.

Liverpool FC released a statement expressing their concern about the incident, stating, "We are in direct contact with Merseyside Police regarding the incident that occurred on Water Street as the trophy parade drew to a close.

Our thoughts are with those affected by this serious incident.

We continue to provide any possible assistance to the emergency services and local authorities in managing the situation."

UK Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, issued a statement expressing his shock over the events in Liverpool.

He thanked the police and emergency services for their swift response during this distressing situation and indicated that updates will be provided as the investigation unfolds.

As authorities continue to investigate, they emphasize the need for space to conduct a thorough inquiry into the events leading up to the incident.
