In a significant joint military operation, the British and American air forces initiated an assault on the military installations of Houthi rebels in Yemen, the London Ministry of Defence announced on Monday night.
According to the official statement released by the ministry, the aerial attack involved four Typhoon FGR4 fighter jets from the Royal Air Force (RAF) and two Voyager air-to-air refueling planes. The British aircraft targeted two Houthi military facilities near the airport of Yemen's capital with Paveway IV precision-guided bombs.
Shortly before the action took place, Downing Street revealed that British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and U.S. President
Joe Biden held a telephone conversation, during which they agreed to continue their efforts, in collaboration with international partners, to prevent attacks by the Houthis on Red Sea shipping, aiming to deter aggressors. The most recent previous joint operation by the British and U.S. air forces against Houthi military installations was conducted on January 11.
