After withstanding a four-month siege by Russian forces, Ukrainian troops are pulling out of the eastern city of Avdiivka.
Over the last 24 hours, Russian units have launched 33 attacks against the city.

On Saturday, early in the morning, Oleksandr Syrskyi, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, announced the withdrawal of Ukrainian units from Avdiivka, a city that has been under Russian siege for four months in Eastern Ukraine.

Facebook page, Oleksandr Syrskyi stated that in order to avoid encirclement and to preserve the lives and health of the soldiers, the decision was made to withdraw Ukrainian forces from the city. The commander-in-chief added that the troops will retreat to more favorable positions.
The withdrawal came a day after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi traveled again to Western Europe on Friday, hoping to persuade his country's Western allies to provide additional military assistance.
The Ukrainian General Staff reported on Friday that Russian troops carried out 33 attacks on Avdiivka in the past 24 hours. The Russians have been trying to capture the city since last October.
