SPAR Hungary supports the entry of local small-scale producers to the market through its "Treasures of the Regions" program.
The initiative aids more than 500 local enterprises and also contributes to a sustainable economy.
Sustainability is increasingly significant, and one of the best actions we can take is supporting local producers with our purchases. This not only ensures fresh, high-quality food on our tables but also shortens the supply chain, significantly reducing environmental impact. Shorter transport distances mean less pollutant emission, and the products do not require energy-intensive long-term storage.
In 2021, SPAR Hungary launched the "Treasures of the Regions" program to bring the excellent quality artisanal products of local small producers to market. The company has established hubs in six county-level cities Székesfehérvár, Zalaegerszeg, Hódmezővásárhely, Nyíregyháza, Pécs, Győr as well as in Budapest, where micro and small enterprises, farmers, artisan companies, small wineries, and breweries can sell their products to the local region. SPAR exclusively selects products made in Hungary, preferably from domestic ingredients, focusing on the regionality and value creation of the manufacturer.
The selection of "Treasures of the Regions" includes dairy products, pasta, wines, meat products, jams, honeys as well as cold-pressed oils, artisanal beers, wines, preserves, pickles, pasta, and sweets. SPAR Hungary currently distributes over 500 products from 100 suppliers under this program. The participating companies employ more than 600 people collectively, supporting job preservation and creation in smaller regions where large enterprises are less present.
Customers have reportedly taken a liking to the unique, often limited-edition food items, and SPAR has provided opportunities for these enterprises not only to present their products at local farmers' markets but also to reach a wider audience as partners of one of Hungary's largest retail chains.
