Valuable rescue gear stolen during a presentation event in Budakeszi.
The Hungarian Cave Rescue Service (BMSz) reported a theft after their vehicle was broken into during a presentation held at a tourist house near Erzsébet Büfé in Budakeszi.
According to the organization, unknown individuals accessed their vehicle and made off with a substantial amount of equipment.
The stolen items included not only essential tools used for rescue operations but also personal gear belonging to the lead cave rescuer conducting the presentation.
Ger Fischer, photographer and local media journalist, stated that rope technical tools and camping gear were among the lost items.
Preliminary assessments indicate that the financial loss exceeds 1 million Hungarian Forints, accounting for over 10% of the BMSz's annual budget.
Following the incident, a report was filed with the Budaörs Police Department.
BMSz has publicly appealed to the thieves, urging them to return the stolen equipment discreetly.
In their message, they emphasized that the equipment could be crucial for future rescue operations, potentially involving the thieves or their family members.
As an added note, they offered that if the stolen items were returned, the thieves could keep worn items, such as battered rubber boots and their accompanying well-used socks.
The organization has also listed the stolen clothing and equipment on their official platform, urging the public to notify them or law enforcement if suspicious items appear on online marketplaces such as
Facebook Marketplace or Vatera, or within any forums related to hiking, mountaineering, or industrial alpinism.
