Szamos Marzipan Owner Organizes Her Own Funeral Feast
Gabriella Kelényi-Szamos, the owner and CEO of Szamos Marzipan, recently celebrated her 75th birthday in an unconventional manner by hosting a funeral feast.
Instead of flowers, she requested that guests bring homemade delicacies.
Gabriella Kelényi-Szamos turned 75 last November, choosing to commemorate the occasion not with a birthday party but with a funeral feast.
The owner and CEO of Szamos Marzipan revealed to Blikk that the idea of hosting a grand celebration after her death first crossed her mind twenty years ago. The business leader does not want her friends to mourn and cry over her departure; she also finds it appalling that after a funeral, "everyone goes home, and the deceased is left behind."
Kelényi-Szamos Gabriella recalled the death of her husband five years ago. His funeral involved scattering a salt urn into the Danube, attended only by close family members. It was then that the owner decided to organize her own funeral feast before her time comes, to spare her children the trouble.
The unusual party saw a total of ninety guests invited, from whom she requested homemade treats instead of flowers.
"One of my sons was the master of ceremonies. I specified in the invitation that I didn't want flowers but was open to any homemade delicacy, so they brought me jams, preserves, and even sausages. My pantry filled up. Additionally, I asked everyone to write something about me, and those who did were entered into a raffle. I've since compiled these writings and I must admit, they emotionally sustain and nourish me," Kelényi-Szamos Gabriella expressed to the paper.
Despite the theme of the event, the company leader still has many ideas she wishes to realize. She is currently working on refreshing the Szamos Museum, which marks its 30th anniversary this year.
