Surján Orsolya takes over leadership at the National Public Health and Medical Officer Service from retired Müller Cecília.
Effective June 1, Surján Orsolya has been appointed as the new Chief Medical Officer at the National Public Health and Medical Officer Service (NNGYK) in Hungary, as announced on the organization's website.
This change follows the retirement of Müller Cecília, who served as the Chief Medical Officer since October 2018, concluding her professional tenure on May 31.
Surján, who succeeds Müller, has over 15 years of experience in the fields of epidemiology, public health, regulatory affairs, and health policy.
Since 2001, she has worked across various sectors of the health care system, including roles as a hospital hygienist, infectologist, county chief medical officer, and has held significant positions at the National Institute for Health Development and the National Public Health Center.
In her new role, Surján will be supported by Enikő Szabó, who will serve as her Deputy for Public Health, Rita Pálffyné Poór as Deputy for Pharmaceutical Affairs, and Albert Torma as General Deputy for Health Emergency Situations.
Müller Cecília's leadership had a pivotal role in coordinating Hungary's response to the
COVID-19 pandemic, along with overseeing various public health and pharmaceutical advancements during her time in office.
Her contributions have been acknowledged for enhancing the safety and effectiveness of the epidemiological and public health system in the country.
Interior Minister Sándor Pintér expressed his gratitude towards Müller Cecília for her decades of exemplary professional service on the occasion of her retirement.
