Surján Orsolya steps into the role following the retirement of Müller Cecília, bringing over 15 years of public health experience.
Effective June 1, 2023, Surján Orsolya has been appointed as Hungary's new Chief Medical Officer, succeeding Müller Cecília at the helm of the National Center for Public Health and Medical Officer (NNGYK).

Müller Cecília, who served in this role since October 2018, is retiring, marking the end of a significant tenure during which she led the institution through the
COVID-19 pandemic and coordinated numerous public health and pharmaceutical advancements.
Surján Orsolya has a robust background in public health, epidemic management, and health policy, with over 15 years of experience in various roles within the healthcare sector.
Previously, she worked as Deputy Chief Medical Officer and has also held positions as a hospital hygienist, infectious disease specialist, and county chief medical officer.
She has led organizations such as the National Institute for Health Development and the National Public Health Institute, acquiring comprehensive expertise in public health and health development initiatives.
In her new capacity, Surján Orsolya will be supported by several key deputies: Enikő Szabó will serve as Deputy for Public Health, Rita Pálffyné Poór as Deputy for Pharmaceuticals, and Albert Torma as General Deputy for Health Emergency Situations.
Müller Cecília's leadership was instrumental during her time in office, particularly in enhancing the safety of Hungary's public health and epidemic response system, which has had a lasting impact on the healthcare sector.
