Spanish Prime Minister May Leave Office Due to Wife's Allegations
In the wake of corruption allegations against his wife, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has temporarily stepped back from his official duties.
The final decision on whether he will officially resign from his position is expected to be made on Monday, April 29.
Following a preliminary investigation by the court into his wife, the Spanish Prime Minister has paused his public duties to contemplate whether he should remain in his role, reports the BBC.
The nation's leader announced that he must urgently decide whether to "continue leading the government" or to resign.
The court initiated the investigation due to corruption allegations raised against the Prime Minister's wife, Begona Gomez. In response, Sánchez stated that "his wife will defend her honor and will cooperate with the judiciary."
The accusations against Gomez were filed by Manos Limpias (Clean Hands), an anti-corruption activist group involved in several high-profile legal cases in recent years, and led by a man with far-right affiliations.
The Prime Minister has announced that he will make a decision regarding his tenure in office on Monday, April 29.
