Tristan Kern de Gonzales, the husband of slain actor Jonathan Joss, discusses a pattern of alleged harassment leading up to the tragic incident.
Jonathan Joss, known for his role in the 2016 film 'The Magnificent Seven,' was shot dead outside his burned home in San Antonio on Sunday.
Reports indicate that the shooting was allegedly carried out by a neighbor after a heated dispute.
According to local residents, there had been ongoing tensions between Joss and the community, stemming from what they described as erratic behavior, including loud disturbances at all hours.
Tristan Kern de Gonzales, Joss's husband, has voiced concerns regarding the possibility of homophobic motives behind the fatal shooting.
In a statement shared on Joss's official
Facebook page, Gonzales recounted that their house had burned down in February after receiving two years' worth of threats.
He stated that neighbors had made explicit threats to set fire to their home, which they reported to the authorities without any subsequent action taken.
Gonzales described the emotional turmoil the couple faced after finding the remains of their dog among the ruins of the fire on the night of the shooting.
He stated that they were confronted by a man who yelled violent, homophobic slurs before drawing a weapon and shooting at them.
At the time, both Gonzales and Joss were unarmed.
The San Antonio Police Department confirmed that the neighbor suspected in the shooting has been arrested and is currently held in custody with a bail set at $200,000.
In a response to allegations of a hate crime, police officials stated that, despite claims circulating on social media regarding homophobic motivations, their investigation has yet to find evidence linking Joss’s murder to his sexual orientation.
Gonzales also noted that he and Joss had recently married and were in the process of searching for a new mobile home to begin a fresh start together.
