The meeting underscored the significance of Hungary in Mercedes-Benz's European operations and discussed the automotive industry's future in the EU.
Hungarian Prime Minister Orbán Viktor hosted Ola Källenius, Chairman of the Board of Management of
Mercedes-Benz Group AG, for a working dinner on Monday evening.
The discussions primarily centered around the automaker's investments in Hungary, particularly its plant in Kecskemét, which has become the group's second-largest automobile manufacturing facility in Europe, employing nearly 5,000 workers in the country.
The meeting addressed the ongoing expansion of the Kecskemét facility, which is projected to create 3,000 new jobs by 2026 and double the production capacity to 400,000 vehicles annually.
This investment is expected to significantly enhance Hungary's automotive manufacturing capabilities.
Additionally, Orbán and Källenius deliberated on the global trade landscape and strategies to strengthen the competitiveness of the European Union.
The Prime Minister’s Office communicated that Minister for Construction and Transport, János Lázár, also attended the meeting, emphasizing the necessity of having strong allies within the European automotive industry.
Lázár articulated that Hungary aims to maintain its role as a strategic partner to the German industry, highlighting the commitment to bolster not only domestic industry and economy but also the German and European sectors.
The ongoing collaboration reflects Hungary's significant position in the European automotive market and its strategic importance for multinational automotive corporations.
