Nigerian Man Arrested for Prison Escape on Train at Balatonlelle
The Kaposvár District Prosecutor's Office has indicted a Nigerian man in his thirties for the crime of prison escape by violating the rules of coercive measures.
The case was processed in an expedited procedure.
According to the press release from the prosecutor's office, the man removed his tracking device and attempted to flee the country to avoid ongoing criminal proceedings against him in the Kaposvár district.
The indictment reveals that the man, who was accused of drug trafficking, had been under criminal supervision since May 2021. The most recent extension by the Capital Court stipulated that the accused could only leave the administrative area of Kaposvár district with special permission and that his movements must be monitored by the competent police force using a tracking device.
However, at the end of March 2024, the man, who was actually residing in a village near Kaposvár, removed the tracking device attached to his hand. Then, he traveled by public transportation first to Kaposvár, from where he planned to go to Budapest and then to Germany. Officers from the Fonyód Police Department arrested and took him into custody after stopping the Budapest-bound train in Balatonlelle.
The Kaposvár District Prosecutor's Office brought the defendant to court while in custody. The Kaposvár District Court found him guilty in line with the prosecutor's charges and sentenced him to 70 days of imprisonment.
