Ministry of Foreign Affairs Comments on Gazprom Potentially Sponsoring Ferencváros**
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has made a statement regarding the rumors that Gazprom might become the next main sponsor of Ferencváros.
While the club has yet to comment on these reports, Minister Péter Szijjártó's department has spoken up on the matter.
Following Ferencváros football team securing its sixth consecutive and thirty-fifth overall championship title over the weekend, reports emerged that the club is in sponsorship talks with a global corporation. According to information from Nemzeti Sport on Friday, followed by a report from Blikk on Sunday, there's an "open secret" that the corporation in question is Gazprom, the Russian gas giant. Gazprom was a supporter of UEFA until Russia launched an attack on Ukraine.
Ferencváros has not yet made any comments about the speculation. However, the Ministry of Foreign and Economic Affairs told RTL:
"The more major international companies invest in Hungarian sports, the better. Moreover, Gazprom is not on any sanctions list."
According to a previous article from the sports news outlet, the negotiations have advanced to the stage where a draft contract has been prepared, raising the possibility that an official agreement might be reached between the parties in the coming weeks.
