Officials urge close monitoring of storm alerts as a cold front approaches, affecting weather conditions during holiday festivities.
The head of the Siófok meteorological observatory, Ákos Horváth, has issued a warning regarding storm conditions for the upcoming Whit weekend in the Lake Balaton area.
According to the observatory, a rapidly moving cold front is expected to reach the region from the northwest on Sunday afternoon, bringing thunderstorms and strong wind gusts.
Before the arrival of the front, the weather is projected to be summery, with temperatures rising to around 29 degrees Celsius by midday, and water temperatures near 25 degrees Celsius.
At approximately 1 PM on Sunday, the wind is forecasted to turn to the northwest and intensify, with gusts potentially reaching speeds of up to 70 kilometers per hour.
Thunderstorm clouds may accumulate particularly over the western part of Lake Balaton; however, significant rainfall is not anticipated, as thunderstorms are expected to occur only sporadically.
Due to numerous sailing competitions and outdoor events during the holiday, Horváth emphasized the importance of monitoring storm alerts via signal lights, the met.hu/balaton website, or through the HungaroMet Meteora app.
Regarding the weather for Monday, it is expected that temperatures will be 5 to 8 degrees Celsius cooler than the previous day after the passage of the front, with strong winds subsiding by the afternoon.

Facebook page that while the incoming cold front does not qualify as extraordinary for the Lake Balaton region, its arrival during a long weekend when a large number of people are expected to be on the water warrants heightened attention.
