Lázár János has officially resigned from his position as the head of the Hódmezővásárhely electoral district, a role that will now be assumed by Czirbus Gábor, the deputy mayor of Makó, as announced by the local Fidesz party.

In December of the previous year, Lázár expressed his desire to relinquish this position, stating he would like to pass the responsibilities to someone else.

In the organizational structure of Fidesz, district heads play a crucial role, particularly during election campaigns.

They oversee the basic organizations within their districts, direct campaign activities, and propose candidates for local government and national parliamentary elections.

Typically, district heads are also the ones nominated as candidates for parliamentary positions.

Lázár has previously stated that he does not intend to run as an individual candidate in the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for 2026. However, he did not entirely rule out the possibility of running on a party list, indicating that the decision in this matter would ultimately be made by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. Lázár has expressed a desire for a younger candidate to succeed him in his current district, and he intends to make a suggestion for the position, although the final decision rests with the Prime Minister.

Czirbus Gábor has recently visited Prime Minister Orbán, whom he described as a very hospitable host.

According to reports, Orbán personally guided his guests around the Karmelita Monastery, providing them with insight into the inner workings of the administration.

During his meeting, Czirbus stated that discussions focused on issues pertinent to Makó and the surrounding region, as well as future matters, although he refrained from disclosing further details.

Local media suggested that Czirbus's visit may have been related to the transition of the district leadership position.
