Legendary German Cyclist Michael Hübner Passes Away at 65
The six-time track cycling world champion died in Saxony.
Michael Hübner, a towering figure in German sport and a six-time track cycling world champion, passed away at the age of 65 in a Saxony hospital.
His death was announced by the German Cycling Federation.
Although Hübner never competed in the Olympics, he was highly respected in Germany and was a significant presence in track cycling until his retirement in 1997.
After retiring from competition, Hübner became the sports director for the TheedProjekt-Cycling track team, a role he held until 2022.
Under his guidance, athletes such as Olympic champion Kristina Vogel, Lea Friedrich, and Maximilian Levy honed their skills.

One has no words at moments like this; he was a sprint legend,' said Vogel, reflecting on her former mentor's impact.
