Kincses, who earned a bronze medal at the 1980 Moscow Olympics, dies in Kecskemét.
Kincses Tibor, a prominent Hungarian judoka and Olympic bronze medalist, has passed away at the age of 66. Born in Kecskemét, Hungary, Kincses' death was reported by judoinfo.hu on Monday.
He began his athletic career in wrestling at Kecskeméti SC before transitioning to judo.
In 1974, he claimed his first Hungarian championship title in the youth category.
Kincses earned a bronze medal at the Youth Friendship Competition held in North Korea in 1976, and in 1979, he triumphed at the IBV tournament in Ulaanbaatar,
Afghanistan, securing a gold medal.
At just 20 years old, Kincses won the domestic Olympic selection for the 60-kilogram weight class in 1980, which enabled him to compete in the Moscow Olympics.
He achieved an impressive performance there, finishing in third place and becoming the second Hungarian to win an Olympic medal in judo, following József Tuncsik's bronze in 1976.
Throughout his career, Kincses also earned accolades at multiple world and European championships.
After retiring from competitive judo, he worked as a coach in Kecskemét and had a brief stint in Szeged.
The Hungarian Judo Federation has declared Kincses Tibor to be a deceased member of the national sports community, and arrangements for his farewell will be announced shortly.
