Hedgehog the Size of a Football Found in a Field in England
A giant hedgehog, curled up into a ball the size of a football, was discovered in a field in Gloucestershire, England.
The animal was taken to a veterinary doctor, where it was revealed that it had ballooned to its massive size due to a severe illness.
The hedgehog had swollen to such an extent that it was spotted by a passenger on a local bus traveling through the field.
The creature was taken to an organization specializing in hedgehog rescue, where a veterinarian diagnosed it with balloon syndrome.
This condition allows air to enter and get trapped between the animal's skin and muscles.
The excess air was released from the hedgehog using a large needle, after which it received pain relief medication and antibiotics. The female hedgehog was affectionately named Bounce. Balloon syndrome is known to affect hedgehogs and can be fatal if left untreated, according to The Guardian.
Origo previously reported that researchers have discovered hedgehogs to have citrus-like spines, and a man from Budapest was reported to have set a hedgehog on fire.
