"It's time for harsh words," wrote the independent parliamentary representative on social media after a nine-year-long investigation into overpriced snow shoveling services.
“MR. PÉTER POLT, PLEASE GO TO HELL!!!!”
This is how Ákos Hadházy, an independent member of the National Assembly, expressed his frustration on his
Facebook page on a Sunday morning.
Behind the outburst lies a story that goes back almost a decade: In 2013, a school in Ózd commissioned snow shoveling services for a season for 25 million forints from a Budapest advertising company, and again two years later.
The case has been under investigation for nine years, and two suspects have been identified. Last year, according to Hadházy, Péter Polt wrote that investigators had sent a proposal for indictment to the prosecution.
However, as it has turned out from the response given by the chief prosecutor to Hadházy's written inquiry, the prosecution has taken no action and has been "analyzing and evaluating" the incoming data for a year.
Hadházy commented on this, saying, "I probably got involved in a very nasty affair, I guess the money must have gone to very high places. But this doesn't concern me too much anymore. I think the handling of this blatantly blunt and simple fraud perfectly illustrates the work of Polt's team. And it also shows how ridiculous it is to hope for any improvement from the EU's part as long as the country is not forced to join the European Public Prosecutor's Office."
