Mayor Pintér Bence discloses the details of a previously confidential agreement with Audi, citing public interest and budgetary concerns.
In a move aimed at enhancing municipal transparency, Győr's Mayor, Pintér Bence, announced the public release of a previously confidential contract with Audi.
This commitment was shared on his official
Facebook page, where he emphasized the importance of making public interest data accessible despite potential financial implications for the city.
Mayor Pintér highlighted that the city is bound by the contract to adjust its business tax rates in response to any tax reductions implemented by competing municipalities, such as Kecskemét, Debrecen, or Szeged, where Audi's industry rivals are located.
He noted that the current financial situation of the local budget is critical, stating that taxpayer funds must be transparently accounted for, particularly in light of the obligations stipulated in the Audi contract.
The mayor remarked that, regardless of competing municipalities' tax reductions, the local business tax rate would remain unchanged, indicating that this could paradoxically result in local businesses facing higher overall taxes despite having lower revenues.
Pintér further expressed his dedication to dismantling what he described as a 'Fidesz' political culture characterized by a lack of transparency regarding municipal finances.
He encouraged residents to access the document via the city's official website or request the public interest information through designated transparency channels to formulate their own opinions on the issue.
The announcement comes amid increasing scrutiny of municipal fiscal management, and the mayor's actions reflect a broader push for accountability within local governance structures.
