Ervin Nagy Speaks Out on Leading the Capital’s List
Ervin Nagy has responded to reports from Index suggesting that he would appear on the capital city list of Péter Magyar's party, the Respect and Freedom Party (Tisza Party).
The actor stated that he has no intention whatsoever of running in the upcoming municipal elections in June.
As we have reported, sources indicated that Péter Magyar and his party, the Tisza Party, aim to compete not only in the European parliamentary elections but also in the municipal elections.
According to our information, they will have mayoral candidates in three districts, and Ervin Nagy's name was mentioned among the potential leaders of the capital list.
Responding to RTL News, the actor described the report as misleading and false.
“I have no desire to run in the municipal elections at all,” stated Ervin Nagy.
Péter Magyar wrote on social media that he cannot confirm the reports about the candidacies in the capital, as the decision has not yet been made. The deputy leader of the Tisza Party added that they are considering running on both the capital and county lists.
According to András Schiffer, a former Member of Parliament, it was a logical step for Péter Magyar to aim to compete in both the European Parliament and municipal elections. In his view, the deputy leader of the Tisza Party would have made a mistake had he decided not to participate in the battle for Budapest. He believes the Tisza Party, “aiming to take over the position of the current opposition,” cannot afford not to make their presence known at least in the capital.
ALEX STEIMETZ HAS NOT YET BEEN ASKED BY THE TISZA PARTY
Alex Steimetz, who has been part of both Momentum and the Hungarian Two-Tailed Dog Party, also refuted the claim to RTL News that he would run as a candidate of Péter Magyar's party in the 15th district on June 9. The politician stated that he has not yet received a specific enquiry from the Tisza Party, but if asked, he would gladly accept the nomination as a candidate.
The 2019 municipal election in Rákospalota was won by the candidate of the Democratic Coalition, Angéla Cserdiné Németh. According to Balázs Barkóczi, a local Member of Parliament for the Democratic Coalition, no opposition candidate stands a chance against Angéla Cserdiné Németh.
