Delays Expected at Belgrade Airport Due to Staff Error
Passengers at Belgrade's Nikola Tesla Airport can expect several hours of delays for flights departing on Monday morning following a staff error on Sunday afternoon that led to a mix-up between arriving and departing passengers in the transit zone. The incident required all individuals to be re-screened, according to the Serbian public broadcaster (RTS).
Between five o’clock and half-past nine on Sunday, no flights departed from Belgrade due to an incident where a group of passengers from Skopje was inadvertently directed to the area designated for departing travelers. Consequently, the transit zone was evacuated and all passengers had to undergo another security check, reports Vijesti.
After a four-hour interruption, passengers were allowed to board their flights, which resulted in significant delays.
Seventeen flights were impacted by the delays, and three flights to Berlin, Frankfurt, and Düsseldorf were canceled. The ministry has ordered an investigation into the incident, and the operating company responsible for the mistake has acknowledged their accountability.
According to a statement from Air Serbia, the Serbian national airline, delays are expected to continue into Monday morning as a result of Sunday's disruption.
