Check Your Computer: These 11 Programs Could Prevent Your Windows 11 Update
A list has recently been unveiled that names specific programs which can obstruct the update process to Windows 11.
Updating Windows might not be on the list of favorite activities for its users due to the various potential hiccups in the process.
A detailed list, which originates straight from Microsoft, has now been revealed. It contains the names of programs that, if present on your computer, could halt the Windows 11 update process. As spotted by the German _Deskmodder_, these are specified within an appraiser.sdb file. The programs include:
- ConisioAdmin.exe (Solidworks PDM)
- EaseUS Disk Copy.exe (EaseUS Disk Copy Application)
- ep_dwm.exe (ExplorerPatcher)
- iCloudServices.exe (iCloud)
- RadeonSoftware.exe (AMD GPU settings)
- StartAllBackCfg.exe (StartAllBack)
- Multi-mon + Copilot (Microsoft)
- MergeSdb (Microsoft)
- Intel IntcOED.sys (Intel)
- Intel IntcAudioBus.sys (Intel)
- Realtek 8192su Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter (Realtek)
According to _XDA Developers_, Microsoft cites performance and security issues with the mentioned programs as reasons for the update blockage, preventing Windows 11 from updating if any of these are installed on a device.
For individuals who recognize any software on the list and are experiencing update issues, these programs might be the culprits.
Fortunately, the solution seems straightforward: removing the problematic software should allow the update process to commence. Following this, renaming the installer file for the implicated program should enable reinstallation without further issues.
Windows 11 appears to only check the exact file name, meaning a change in the file's name could bypass the update blockage. However, it’s conceivable that Microsoft might close this loophole in the future.
