Biowaste Collection Kicks Off in Szolnok, A First in The System
The city of Szolnok has taken the lead in Hungary by initiating the collection of biowaste, with plans for the capital city of Budapest to follow suit in March.
The collection of household bio and food waste has commenced at designated sites, according to a compilation by Telex. As reported, the following cities have already launched the program in sequence:
- Szolnok
- Székesfehérvár
- Kaposvár
Additionally, the collection will soon begin in several other cities including Miskolc and Cegléd. By March, the system is also set to be introduced in Budapest, although it will not cover the entire city initially. Instead, the collection will be primarily focused on residential housing estates and prefabricated housing estates. In the capital, initially the XI and XXI districts, and by the end of the year, the XX district are slated to participate. Detailed information on precisely who will collect what and how can be read here:
The collection is conducted by Mohu Mol Waste Management Zrt., the waste subsidiary of Mol Zrt., which won the domestic waste concession for a period of 35 years. This year, in the first phase, biowaste will be collected from 460,000 households across 14 municipalities.
