Negotiations are underway between the District II council, the state, and the Gül Baba Foundation for the renovation of the Király Thermal Bath on Fő street.
According to a post by Gergely Őrsi, the mayor of District II, the Király Thermal Bath, which has been closed for the past five years, may soon be renewed following a new concept. The bath was closed before the pandemic for renovation purposes. However, the initial ambitious plans have been revised to focus on restoring the original function and preserving the architectural heritage.
"The main goal is preservation, to maintain the building, which is under conservation protection, as a local value, and to preserve the bath as a relic of the former bathing culture," wrote Gergely Őrsi. The bath is wholly owned by the state, but the Municipality of the Capital City of Budapest has the right to use it free of charge, and it is operated by the Budapest Spa and Thermal Waters Co. Ltd. Discussions on its renovation have already started between the District II mayor who is also the commissioner responsible for the renovation , the Gül Baba Foundation, and the Hungarian state.
The mayor's post did not specify the exact structure, sources of funding, or when the work would commence.
