Deadly Multi-Vehicle Collision in Budapest: At-Fault Driver Flees the Scene
A tragic accident involving multiple vehicles occurred in Budapest's 18th district, on the section of route 4 leading to the Liszt Ferenc International Airport near Billentyű Street, resulting in two fatalities.
The at-fault driver has fled, prompting a manhunt, as reported by the Budapest Police Headquarters on Friday on their website, police.hu.
According to available information, a Bulgarian-registered car collided with an oncoming vehicle, followed by another crash into a car with Hungarian plates coming from behind.
A middle-aged man and woman in the Hungarian-registered car were pronounced dead at the scene. The occupants of the foreign-registered vehicle, including the driver, fled the scene. Two individuals in the car behind them sustained injuries, which, according to preliminary data, appear to be minor.
The Budapest Police Headquarters is investigating the circumstances of the accident in a criminal proceeding and has launched a manhunt for the driver and passengers of the vehicle that caused the crash.
Earlier this year, the capital also witnessed another fatal accident where the guilty driver fled the scene. The tragedy in Újpest involved a collision between four passenger cars and a scheduled bus, and was also covered by Világgazdaság. The perpetrator, M. Péter, abandoned his vehicle and fled the scene.
A 45-year-old man sustained injuries that proved fatal at the location of the accident, while his 14-year-old daughter suffered minor injuries and was transported to the hospital by ambulance. A woman was also injured in the collision.
