The mayor of Ócsa responded to allegations by Koltai Róbert, an award-winning actor, claiming that one of his performances in the town was canceled.
Károly Bukodi insists he did not hinder the event and considers the incident a political maneuver.
Previously, Koltai Róbert, who has received the Jászai Mari Award, shared in a
Facebook post that he had been invited by the cultural center in Ócsa for a solo performance. However, he added, "Two weeks later, a cancellation call came through, saying that the mayor did not permit it."
News site 444 noticed that on Friday evening, the mayor of Ócsa posted a video explaining that the invitation had been made back in January, questioning why Koltai had not spoken up sooner about the issue.
According to Bukodi, the situation was a result of the Ócsa leisure center contacting multiple artists, including Koltai Róbert, while planning its annual program. Eventually, they did not proceed with Koltai. The mayor clarified that he neither has the means nor the right to enforce such bans and defended himself as not being that kind of person. He admitted the decision was poorly communicated, leading to perceptions of a ban.
Furthermore, the mayor suggested that Koltai's post was in fact a political action, strategically published just days before the start of the municipal election campaign.
Telex also reported a comment by Xantus Barbara on Koltai’s post. She mentioned plans to perform in Ócsa alongside Szurdi Miklós, which were scrapped after indications from someone in the mayor's circle that "Szurdi Miklós and his team were not welcome in Ócsa."
